Sports events for the Tokyo Sports Festival for the Disabled

Here we will introduce the competition events of the Tokyo Sports Festival for the Disabled.In this tournament, the competitions and events that can be participated in are divided according to the type of disability.

■Tokyo Sports Tournament for the Disabled...
 This is a sports festival that targets three types of disabilities: physical, intellectual, and mental.
 This tournament also serves as a selection event for the Tokyo team to participate in the National Sports Tournament for People with Disabilities.

◎50m run (visually impaired sound source run)

In a 0m race run by visually impaired people with visual acuity of 0.01 to 50, they run relying on a sound source behind the finish line.
*If it is difficult for you to run the sound source, you may run with a companion runner.

○Slalom

This is an event for wheelchair users to participate in.Racers pass through 30 gates on a course with a total length of 12 meters, with white gates going forward and red gates going backwards.

○Bean bag throw

This event is aimed at wheelchair users with severe disabilities.Throw out a 150cm square bag weighing 12g containing soybeans, etc.You can throw the ball in any way you like, and you are also allowed to kick it on your foot.

◎Javerick Throw

Participants compete for the distance by throwing a turbo jab made of polyethylene that is approximately 70 cm long and weighs 300 g.The rules are the same as for javelin throw, but relaxation measures may be taken in terms of physical function.

Swimming (physical/intellectual disability category)

There are five events: □Freestyle, □Breaststroke, □Backstroke, □Butterfly, and ●Relay.The distances vary depending on the event, such as □5m, □25m, and □50m.
The event will be held in accordance with the Japan Swimming Federation competition rules, but depending on the type of disability, starting in the water or using flotation aids may be permitted.In addition, for athletes who are unable to judge turns or goals due to visual impairment, a person authorized by the organizer may use a signal stick to give signals.

Archery (physical disability category)

It is held in accordance with the All Japan Archery Federation competition rules, and there are recurve and compound divisions.In addition to the 50m/30m round and 30m double round, the recurve section will also have an 18m double round and a 12m double round to encourage beginners to participate.

Flying Disc (Physical, Intellectual, and Mental Disorders Division)

There is Accuracy, in which you throw a disc 5 times at an Accuracy Goal (a circle with a diameter of 7 cm) 91.5m or 10m away, and compete for the number of times it passes, and Distance, in which you throw a disc 3 times and compete for the farthest throw.You can throw both freely.

Bowling (Intellectual Disability Category)

Rankings will be determined by the total score of two games without any handicaps using the American method.

Table tennis (physical/intellectual/mental disability category)

The game is played in accordance with the Japanese Table Tennis Rules, but for a wheelchair user to serve, the ball served must pass the end line properly.Additionally, if you are unable to serve normally due to physical reasons, you may serve after dropping the ball onto your own court.

Sound table tennis (physical disability category)

Visually impaired people who have difficulty playing regular table tennis wear eye masks and compete for points by rolling a ball on a special table tennis table.The ball contains a metal ball that makes a sound when it rolls.

Sports gathering (intellectual disability section)

This event is aimed at people with intellectual disabilities. They can casually try out sports together with their family, friends, and carers.
Examples of events: 30m sprint, 100m sprint, ball throwing, tug-of-war, relay

Boccia (physical disability category)

This is a competition for people with physical disabilities to participate.It is a competition in which players compete for points by moving their ball as close as possible to a white ball called a jack ball, which is located in a court measuring 6 meters wide and 10 meters long.Athletes who are unable to hold or release the ball due to a severe disability can compete using an assistive device called a ``ramp'' that allows them to roll the ball.Additionally, an assistant with his back to the court moves the ramp and helps place the ball on the ramp according to the player's instructions.

The height of the ring, the width of the court, the ball, etc. are the same as in regular basketball.Athletes are given points depending on the degree of their disability, and one team (1 players) is made up of 5 points or less.The player can drive his wheelchair up to two times while holding the ball, and is characterized by the fact that double dribbling is not a violation.

Field goal

Compete for the most shots in 30 seconds.

rebound

For 30 seconds, pass the ball on the board, jump catch it, and compete for the number of successful landings.

dribble

Compete to see how many obstacles you can dribble through in 3 seconds, placed every 30m.

Soccer (intellectual disability category)

The field size and equipment are the same as regular soccer.There are also the following individual events.

dribble shoot

Dribble through a course with five cones and compete to see how fast you can stop the ball in the shooting zone.Also, the points scored from the shot will be added as bonus points.

Game

Individual event participants form teams and play matches.

Softball (intellectual disability category)

The field size and equipment are the same as regular softball, but the distance to the pitcher plate is 12.19 meters.

Grand Softball (Physical Disability Category)

This is a competition in which visually impaired people participate.It is based on regular softball rules.The pitcher relies on the catcher's hand movements to ground out the ball, and the batter relies on the sound of the ball to hit the ball.Runners run the bases by relying on the hand movements of the coachers stationed at each base.

Foot Softball (Intellectual Disability Division)

The game is based on the rules of softball, but attacks are made by kicking the ball rolled by the pitcher.The fielding positions and batting order are the same as in baseball and softball.However, runners cannot leave base while the pitcher is in possession of the ball inside the pitcher's circle.Additionally, runners running on base must return to their original base.

Volleyball (physical, intellectual, mental disability category)

It is a 6-person game, and in the physical (hearing impairment) and intellectual disability category, the court size and ball are the same as regular volleyball, but the height of the net is 2.43 m for boys, 2.24 m for girls, and 2.30 m for the physical disability category. In the disability category, the men's race will be 2.15m and the women's race will be 2.24m. In the mental disorder category, the height of the net is 1 meters and the ball used is a soft volleyball. Teams must also be made up of mixed men and women, with at least one woman participating at all times.
