We're supporting international parasports tournaments held in Tokyo! ~Boccia, wheelchair rugby, para-badminton, para-powerlifting~

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is implementing a project to support the hosting of international parasports competitions in the city, as well as to provide spectators with opportunities to attend in locations close to home for Tokyo residents.

With the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics fast approaching, and parasports gaining even more popularity, we will be supporting four tournaments. Please take this opportunity to come to the venues and cheer on the Japanese athletes.

Conference Overview
The Japanese representative team "Hinotama Japan" and the national team of the strong Asian country Thailand will participate in the parasport Boccia, which will be held as an "inclusive tournament that anyone can participate in." A Boccia experience booth will also be set up to further enhance the appeal of the sport.

Conference Overview
This is an international wheelchair rugby tournament where Japan, the United States, and Australia will compete over three days. Young players from each country will participate, leading to the development and discovery of new players. There will be events at the venue to make the event more enjoyable for spectators, such as live commentary and the opportunity to try out racing wheelchairs.

Conference Overview
An international para powerlifting tournament with the participation of 10 Asian countries and regions. The tournament aims to revitalize the sport and improve competitiveness in the Asian region. A powerlifting trial session will also be held at the venue.

*About the project to promote international parasports competitions

This is a system that supports international para sports competitions held in Tokyo, with the aim of promoting para sports and creating a "Sports Field Tokyo."

<Business overview>
The government will provide support of up to 1,000 million yen to organizing organizations for international parasports competitions held in Tokyo that meet certain requirements, such as an expected number of participating countries being five or more (two or more countries for team sports) and an expected number of spectators being 800 or more.
The selection committee will review the applicant organization's eligibility and the content of the tournament based on application documents such as the tournament's business plan and income and expenditure plan, and then select the tournament to be supported.

This project is part of the "Oshi Sports Project."
The "Favourite Sports Project" is an initiative to create opportunities for Tokyo residents to become familiar with a variety of sports in the run up to the IAAF World Athletics Championships and Deaflympics being held in Tokyo in 2025, and to help them discover the fun of sports that suit their individual tastes and characteristics (Favourite Sports) as they experience the appeal of sports.
