Learn about the earthquake disaster and experience the charms of Iwate

On the second day, the participants learned about the earthquake disaster by visiting Takata Matsubara Tsunami Reconstruction Memorial Park, and experienced the attractions of Iwate Prefecture through activities such as making hamburgers and trying their hand at fishing.

Takata Matsubara Tsunami Restoration Memorial Park

The park is a symbol of the recovery, as it preserves relics from the disaster, including the "Miracle Pine Tree," the only tree that survived the tsunami, after about 7 pine trees in Takata Matsubara were washed away by the tsunami. The athletes strolled around the park listening to explanations from the park guide, and got a real feel for the threat of tsunamis.
