What is the Oshi Sports Project?

The "Favourite Sports Project" is an initiative to create opportunities for Tokyo residents to become familiar with a variety of sports in the run up to the IAAF World Athletics Championships and Deaflympics being held in Tokyo in 2025, and to help them discover the fun of sports that suit their individual tastes and characteristics (Favourite Sports) as they come into contact with the appeal of sports.

Number of people who participated in the Oshi Sports Project* Approximately 300 million people

With the World Athletics Championships and Deaflympics creating a sports boom, many people participated in sports events organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and related organizations, which allowed them to experience the joy of sports and contributed to the realization of healthy minds and bodies and vibrant lives for Tokyo residents.
Going forward, through various sports-related initiatives, we will continue to support the enjoyment of sports and the discovery of favorite sports that suit the preferences and characteristics of each and every Tokyo resident.
*Number of people who participated in sports events organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and related organizations (number of people counted between April 2024 and November 2025)
*Includes the number of visitors to the World Athletics Championships and Deaflympics (World Athletics Championships: approximately 62, Deaflympics: approximately 33).
*Does not include the number of users of the Tokyo Metropolitan Sports Facility Rental Business.
