Greetings from the Director of the Sports Promotion Headquarters
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the Tokyo team for their hard work.
At this year's National Sports Festival, the athletes fought hard in every event, achieving outstanding results, including first place in five events and placing in the top three in 15 events. As a member of the team, I attended the general opening ceremony held at the foot of Hikone Castle, attended by Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress. Amidst an atmosphere of tension and elation, I was struck by the athletes' earnest gazes and quietly burning fighting spirit, and felt the strength that was backed by their daily rigorous training.
This year, as the host prefecture, Shiga Prefecture, which is aiming to win the Emperor's Cup, and other strong competitors from around the country fought fiercely, and as a result, Tokyo came in second place in both the overall men's and women's rankings.
We would like to thank all the players, managers and coaches for their hard work. We hope that all the players will continue to work hard and do well in various tournaments both at home and abroad.
Tokyo will also implement various measures to improve competitiveness and other measures, and will continue to provide its full support.
Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the coaches and instructors from each sports organization, as well as all the people involved who supported the athletes at this year's Shiga Prefectural National Sports Festival.
Return of the flag
Miyamoto Keita, who served as the flag bearer at the tournament and contributed greatly to the team's second place finish in the kendo competition, returned the team flag to Yamamoto, Chairman of the Tokyo Sports Association, who served as the team leader.
Disbandment announcement
Chairman Yamamoto announced the dissolution of the organization.
"Unfortunately, this year we finished second in the Emperor's Cup and Empress's Cup. We hope that next year we will be able to win both the Emperor's Cup and Empress's Cup on this stage."
Awards ceremony
Following the closing ceremony, awards were presented to the national sports championship winners (5 groups), national sports champions (18 groups, 140 individuals), and national sports outstanding athletes (277 athletes from 34 groups who placed 2nd to 8th).
