[Mölkky, a wooden sport that anyone can enjoy!]
Mölkky is a new sport that originated in Finland, and its appeal lies in its simple rules: knock down wooden pins and compete for points. It can be enjoyed by anyone, from children to the elderly, regardless of age or physical ability, and its exquisite balance of strategy and luck means that even first-timers can quickly get into the swing of things.
Through this competition, players will participate in the matches with a healthy spirit of fair play and goals, which will foster mutual respect among players and promote interaction and collaboration among residents of the ward across generations.
Furthermore, based on the SDGs philosophy, we aim to hold an environmentally friendly sporting event that makes use of sustainable resources, which will also lead to the creation of a new sporting culture rooted in the local community.
[From Kita Ward! A Mölkky festival for everyone to enjoy]
The newly appointed Sports Promotion Committee, which was established in fiscal year 6, planned this tournament with the aim of popularizing Mölkky in Kita Ward. As this will be the first time the event is being held, it is unknown what kind of tournament it will be, but we are aiming for content that will make all participants feel that "Mölkky is fun!"
We hope that in the future this will become a regular event in the community that will be held on an ongoing basis, and we will work on this as the first step towards the future.
[Team Challenge! Block Tournament]
This tournament will be held in a block-based tournament format.
We plan to recruit 16 teams, and if there are a large number of applications, a lottery will be held.
The tournament format is easy for even first-time participants to participate in, so please feel free to join us!
The Kita Ward Sports Promotion Committee runs a variety of sports events throughout the year, including this one, with the aim of promoting health and interaction in the local community. In addition to Nordic walking, bus hikes, and various sports experience sessions, the council also offers activities that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, such as a badminton and table tennis area, a sports area for adults (futsal, soft volleyball, pickleball), Mölkky and boccia experience sessions, and slacklining experience sessions.

When I was serving as the chairman of the Elementary School PTA Association, I was recommended to become a sports promotion committee member. I was attracted to the idea of being able to contribute to the promotion of health in the community and to creating opportunities for interaction, so I decided to take on the role.
What kind of activities do you usually do as a sports promotion committee member?

I have been involved in running Mölkky tournaments at elementary schools and in the area I live in, and I have also obtained a Mölkky instructor's license. Utilizing this experience, I am working as a sports promotion committee member to spread the joy of Mölkky to the local community, as well as planning and running events.
Mr. Seki, what do you find appealing and rewarding about being a sports promotion committee member during your time as a sports promotion committee member?

We are incorporating the perspective of the SDGs, promoting connections within the community, while also planning to create a tournament that everyone can enjoy and that places minimal strain on the environment.
Mölkky does not use electricity and uses tools made from properly managed wood, which contributes to harmony with nature and the sustainable use of resources. The fact that it is a simple sport and can be participated in by people of all ages and physical abilities is in line with the SDGs' philosophy of "leaving no one behind." At this tournament, equipment is kept to a minimum and efforts are being made to ensure a safe and secure operation.
Lastly, please give a message to the citizens of Tokyo!
